For people who lead busy lives and who don’t have a particularly green thumb or an eye for detail, the backyard can often be left unattended. The result can be overgrown garden beds, long grass and the blurring of otherwise defined lines. Some even get used to this state of affairs, not realising that perhaps they would be more inclined to spend time outdoors if the space was well looked after.
Lawns, Overgrowth and
Weeds
Mowing the lawn doesn’t actually take that long, but it certainly makes a difference, giving the whole space a new fresh look. Cutting back branches that are in the way can also open up the space and save people brushing into them or ducking to get past. Pulling out the weeds that are the most visible can also be quite satisfying. It might not be the most enjoyable task but doing a bit each week and working systematically can yield great results. Sweep or blow the paths at the end for a good finish. For people who find keeping on top of gardening difficult, hiring in gardeners on a regular basis can be a viable option. This also saves the need to keep a working lawnmower onsite.
Keep the Pool Area Tidy
A backyard swimming pool is often a significant investment, with ongoing cleaning and maintenance costs. As with any investment, care should be taken to look after it and maximise the returns. The pool is no exception. Aside from the routine maintenance of the swimming pool itself, a few minutes spent at the end of the day or session tidying up the area can make a big difference. Taking a minute to straighten poolside furniture, a couple of minutes to collect items such as goggles, towels, bathers and toys, means that the pool is ready for the next use. Keeping a broom within easy access makes it easy to do a quick sweep of the area if this is necessary.
Keep Glass Pool Fence
Panels Sparkling
Frameless glass pool fencing in Sydney homes seems to be the new trend, and with good reason. The slim glass panels provide the safety barrier required by state law in New South Wales, but they are much more than just a barricade. Glass pool fencing can become integrated into the entire backyard and allow an attractive pool to be the continued focal point, as opposed to a row of black bars. Through deliberate design, a glass pool fence can become a feature in itself and enhance the whole area.
Hosing down glass pool fence panels regularly prevents the build-up of dirt and grime which can be quite a job to remove. Water splashing from the pool can also leave behind a residue of salt or chlorine which should be rinsed off to keep the glass panels in good shape. Stubborn streaks can be scrubbed off with warm soapy water, followed by a good rinse. Through regular care cleaning and maintenance, a glass pool fence can look brand new for years.

Swimming pool chemicals control bacteria and algae and provide a safe
and clean pool. In concentrated form these chemicals are potentially dangerous.
Swimming pool chemicals are reactive. If accidentally mixed with other
chemicals, the mixture can become unstable and produce poisonous fumes or even
fire. Pool chemicals do not pose a threat if used and stored correctly. Handle
the following with care:
·
Chlorine, in either liquid
or granulated state.
·
Pool acids and other
stabilisation agents.
·
Pool detergents.
Here is a simple safety checklist:
·
Read the label before
purchasing any chemicals. Understand the correct use and the dangers posed by
the chemical.
·
If children will be
present, choose the least dangerous product that will do the job.
·
Always lock chemicals in a
cupboard out of reach of children. Children are curious, inventive and good
climbers.
·
Seal chemicals in their
original containers, ensure that they are clearly labelled.
·
Store away from other
chemicals or substances, including hydrocarbons like petrol, kerosene, oil etc.
·
Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions. Handle with extreme caution.
·
Ensure adequate
ventilation.
·
Follow instructions and
wear protective clothing like gloves, safety googles, trousers and long-sleeved
shirts etc.
·
Stop using immediately if
you notice: skin rash, headache, breathing problems, nausea, eye irritation
etc.
·
Always add chemicals to
the water and never add water to the chemicals.
·
Do not mix chemicals.
·
Do not prepare more
chemicals than you need for the job.
·
Do not pour chemicals down
the drain, the toilet or the gutter.
·
If you spill chemicals,
follow the safety instructions on the container label.
·
Do not re-use empty
containers or repack products in different containers.
Have you inspected your chemical storage areas and container seals
recently?
Have you contacted your local council to discard old or leftover chemicals?
If skin or eyes are burnt, if chemical has been swallowed or ingested
or fumes inhaled - seek immediate medical attention.
Restricting Access to the Pool with Glass Pool Fencing
In addition to keeping
nasty chemicals out of reach of children, make sure the swimming pool itself is
also safe guarded against small children. Inadequate pool fencing remains a
major contributing factor in the rate of drowning among children under five
years of age. If you don’t want to spoil the aesthetics of your pool area,
consider going for a glass pool fencing option. This solution can be made to
suit all the pool fencing Sydney requirements, whilst creating a modern and sleek look that enhances
the whole area.
Nobody can afford to take short cuts which jeopardise the safety of young children. By taking the time and effort required to put safety measures in place, you reduce the risk of accidents associated with backyard swimming pools. Do whatever is needed to transform your pool area from an accident waiting to happen, to a place that the whole family can enjoy.
